Halfway to Mobile!

Today we left a great anchorage near Cape Girardeau, MO early at 7:15am since there was no fog. Traveled down the last 48 miles of the Mississippi and made the BIG left hand turn up the Ohio River. Going up stream slowed us down a bit but we still made good time to our anchor 5 miles West of Paducah, KY on the river but off the channel near the long I-24 highway bridge. It was a good day, clear and warm with a light SE breeze. We have now reached the half way point to Mobile, AL our destination for the first leg of the Loop.

Hi Jay,
So far from my charts Northern light has gone 585 mi to the I-24 bridge. If you plan on taking the Cumberland Rvr to Lake Barkley and Kentucky lake south you should have about 715 miles to go the marina in Mobile Bay. The way the southern TennTom wanders you end up going ten miles back and forth to go 2 mile south. I'm enjoing your postings and wish I could have hitched a ride.Jack Z

Hi Jay,

I've been following Northern Light's adventure with great envy. We get to visit with a number of loopers when they stop at Drummond Island and a friend of ours on Drummond did the loop a couple of years ago. They are following Northern Light on your blog as well. One of their comments: “I visited his blogspot. Memories of our trip are still vivid and I enjoyed reading about his experiences.” The August 24-30 “American Profile”, an insert in the Sault Ste. Marie Sunday newspaper, had a nice article about “The Great Loop.” Here’s a link http://www.americanprofile.com/article/28514.html

Hi guys, sounds like the trip is going well, you are making some great time on the loop. It is so nice to see how the trip is going and what wonderful meals you are having. I am telling you gotta write a cookbook for those loopers. Linda and I enjoy reading about your progress, it makes it seem like we are almost there.

Love, Linda, Matt & Abbey
